CHALLENGE

Garner exposure for Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural. Promote its first original documentary feature, Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror, to HBCU students nationally. Ensure a heightened level of multicultural Generation Z awareness.

STRATEGY

Implemented a 5-school HBCU film screening tour courtesy of our HBCU Cinema Experience, running from Black History Month (February) to HBCU Awareness Month (March) to promote Horror Noire. The participating schools included Hampton University, Clark Atlanta University, Florida A&M University, Norfolk State University and Benedict College. Shudder provided a free 30-day trial to all of the participating HBCUs. Developed an expansive digital campaign and distributed a survey to obtain feedback about the film and African American representation in horror.

RESULTS

  • Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror received rave reviews from HBCU students
  • Over 700 screening attendees at 5 leading HBCUs
  • Q&A at Clark Atlanta University with actor Keith David (Horror Noire, Greenleaf)
  • Skype session at Benedict College with Horror Noire director Xavier Burgin
  • Accumulated survey research from the screening attendees about Horror Noire and African American representation in the Horror genre
  • Generated a press release that resulted in a potential audience of over 27 million
  • Top Online Pickup: Black Enterprise Magazine
  • 3 million + Social Media Impressions
